SkyCity Auckland Poker Room - Cash Games and Tournaments

Texas Hold'em and Pot Limit Omaha cash games with tournaments at SkyCity Auckland.

Texas Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha Cash Games

We bring all our poker action to the SkyCity Auckland Casino, right at 72 Victoria Street West. Our poker room operates with 4-6 poker tables set for both No Limit Texas Hold’em and Pot Limit Omaha. At all hours, every table runs with automatic shufflers and staffed by our dealers, so you’re set for a smooth flow. Game times: Monday to Thursday 6pm-2am, Fridays 6pm-4am, Saturdays 12pm-4am, and Sundays 12pm-3am.

Hold’em cash tables operate at $2/$3 (buy-ins $100-$400), $5/$5 (buy-ins $200-$1,000), and $5/$10 (buy-ins $500-$3,000) blinds. Rake goes to a max of 10%, capping at $15 or $20 for the top game, taken in units of $5. We collect a $1 per hand jackpot fee in Hold’em games, which actually slots you into Royal Flush payouts - note that this jackpot fee applies to Texas Hold’em cash games only, not Pot Limit Omaha. Hold’em also allows for a live straddle, fixed at twice the big blind.

Pot Limit Omaha is available at $5/$5 stakes with buy-ins of $400-$1,500. In Omaha, no jackpot fees and no straddle option - straightforward action only. All games operate in New Zealand dollars. There’s a chip exchange kiosk on the floor, which is handy. We always have a digital queue with SMS for seats, so your spot is looked after.

Tournaments and Registration

Poker tournaments run a couple of times a week, including weekly Sit and Go tournaments, with buy-ins typically ranging from $20 to $300 NZD. Monday features low-stakes Sit and Go with a $20 buy-in ($15 + $5 registration fee). A $250 No Limit Hold’em Freezeout Tournament is offered with 6:30 PM start time, late registration until end of level 5, as a single day event. Entry requires a SHOW by SkyCity card or valid Premier Rewards card, just like the rest of our casino games. Poker tournaments are exclusive to SHOW by SkyCity card holders or valid Premier Rewards card holders. Schedules change from week to week, so details are posted near the poker desk.

Sign-up deadlines happen before each event, so get your card out for registration to grab a seat. Late registration is open until the end of level 5 for most tournaments. Re-entry and add-on chances, those depend on which tournament it is. Regular tournaments run as single day events with No-Limit Hold’em format, big blind ante, and 30-second shot clock. Tournament buy-ins typically range from $20 to $300 NZD.

Any player joining cash tables also needs a registered card. Getting yourself a SHOW by SkyCity card is quick. Jump up to the membership desk near the main entrance - they’ll need your full name, contact info and you’ll have to show:

  1. NZ or Australian driver’s licence
  2. Valid passport
  3. NZ or Australian firearms licence
  4. Valid overseas national ID with a photograph

It usually takes about 10 minutes for first-time setup. Once you have the card, you use it every time, and it’s valid for future visits. You can also earn points from your poker play through the Rewards system.

Location, Access, and Amenities

Poker is upstairs, right after the Victoria Street West entrance. Just head through the lobby and gaming machine area - there’ll be signs for the poker room. Room layout is clear, and you spot the chip kiosk straight away. SkyCity Auckland features a wide range of table games, including poker variants such as Three Card Poker, Caribbean Stud Poker, and Ultimate Texas Hold’em.

There’s free Wi-Fi throughout. Waiting area seats surround play tables, so you can relax or watch a bit while you wait. Bars are nearby, serving drinks and snacks throughout our opening hours.

Parking is easy: we’ve got onsite options plus direct access from central Auckland public transport. Right next to the Sky Tower, so if you see that, you can find us.

Our main casino is open 24/7, though it’s worth checking opening times, especially on public holidays like Christmas Day, Good Friday, and Anzac Day, as hours may vary. The poker room does not open until 6 p.m. on weekdays, closes slightly earlier on some nights, and stays open late Friday and Saturday. Best to double-check times before coming in.

Accommodation Options

Hotel accommodations available include SkyCity Hotel and SkyCity Grand Hotel with rates ranging from $132.00 to $1,675.00, offering convenient access to the poker room and casino floor.

Card Requirements and Responsible Gaming

SkyCity requires every player to use a registered card for play - for poker and all other games. Please note that the minimum age to play poker at SkyCity Auckland is 20 years. Our system keeps tabs on your session length, with a 12-hour max for any 18-hour period. If you’re close to the limit, our staff will let you know and ask you to take a break - no way around it, that’s the rule.

This tracking kicks in every time you buy in or cash out, including if you move between tables or try another game. Once you reach your limit, you have to take a six-hour break off the gaming floor. If you’re in a tournament and hit the cap mid-game, you can finish that event.

We also link all cards to your photo ID, so sharing or double-registering won’t work. Replacing lost or damaged cards takes a few minutes at the membership desk. There’s only one account per person.

If you want support, you can always call the Gambling Helpline: 0800 654 655. They’re on-call all hours and not tied to us. Self-exclusion programmes are also available if you need a break from gaming.

On the Floor: Player Experience

SkyCity Auckland has received positive feedback from guests on Tripadvisor, with recognition among Auckland’s attractions. Guests appreciate the size and vibe of the venue.

Our poker space often gets praise for the way our dealers run the games and how well we keep things maintained. Automatic shufflers help keep play quick. Chips and table felt are kept up to global standards.

Staff look after waiting lists through a digital queue. You’ll get an SMS or in-person heads up when your seat’s ready. Wait times swing by stake and day, with higher limits often needing a little more patience. If you want to wander, let us know and we’ll save your place.

New players typically need about 10 minutes for registration setup, and bring your ID. Your card is good for any poker games going forward - only update your address if you move.

Smart casual dress is recommended. Singlets, thongs, and attire with gang logos are not permitted. Security retains final approval on dress code compliance.

If you need to swap your currency, there’s an exchange desk. ATMs at the entrance and on the floor always have NZ Dollars on hand. Just a note, credit card advances might get hit with fees from your provider.

Our poker room isn’t on the international poker circuit - you won’t find stops from tours like the Asia Pacific Poker Tour here. All focus is local, fitting the New Zealand poker scene with accessible buy-ins and pools, but sometimes bigger events are posted on our official site.
