Entry and Registration

SkyCity Auckland is located in the heart of Auckland’s CBD and is the only casino in Auckland. Entry is for those 20 years and older. Valid photo ID is required at the entrance: current passport, current NZ or AU driver’s licence, current NZ firearms licence, or valid overseas national ID card (with signature or biometric data such as fingerprint). Before any play, everyone needs to register either with the SHOW by SkyCity card (or valid Premier Rewards card) - registration can be completed online or onsite at the casino. Dress code is smart casual.

We keep the process organized at several entry points, so entry is tracked via registration from the start. Carded play is required for all machines and tables. Usually, you’ll get through registration in just a few minutes. The casino is open 24 hours daily, except Christmas Day, Good Friday, and between 3am and 1pm on Anzac Day. Outside those rare closures, registered members have full access. Opened on 2 February 1996, it was the second casino in New Zealand.

We track every session with mandatory breaks built in under SkyCare. No way around it. Your playtime gets logged from the very first swipe.

Smoking is permitted only in designated zones on the main gaming floor.

Gaming Floor Layout

The gaming floor features a wide variety of games. We offer over 2,100 Gaming Machines, sorted into zones for every type of player. Stakes range from low to high-limit machines. Each one asks for your card to get started. The modern touchscreens let you pick games, check your balance, and see how long you’ve been playing. Renovated in 2006.

We run 150 Table Games too. Including Baccarat, Blackjack, Roulette, Poker, and Slots. If you prefer digital, automated tables bring the same games but with a digital twist - you play through a screen instead of a dealer. Poker lovers have a dedicated 9-table poker room for cash games or tournaments, with its own registration. Poker buy-ins start from $15 up to $500, catering to different player levels.

VIPs get their space. Entry is restricted and more private, set aside for higher-tier members. The tables here have elevated limits and extra perks for those who’ve earned them.

SkyCare Breaks and Play Limits

To keep things balanced, after 5 hours at a machine or table, everyone must step away for a full 30 minutes. Your card gets shut off for half an hour - no exceptions.

Play longer, and the restrictions increase. After 10 hours in any rolling period brings a six-hour forced break, automatically monitored through your card. Maximum of 36 hours play in any seven-day period.

Machines and tables will warn you when you’re close. Staff are also prompted, so you won’t get caught by surprise at the last second. Every registered member, regardless of status, follows these rules.

You can always take a break of your own, no matter how much you’ve played. Use a self-service terminal or ask a staff member anytime for a voluntary timeout. These personal breaks can last a day, a month, or even be permanent if you need it.

Entry Requirements and Registration

SkyCity Auckland requires all visitors to be 20 years or older with valid identification. Registration through SHOW by SkyCity card (or valid Premier Rewards card) is mandatory before any gaming activity. The casino operates 24 hours daily except Christmas Day, Good Friday, and 3am-1pm on Anzac Day.

Carded play is required across all gaming areas:

  • Over 2,100 Gaming Machines across different stake levels
  • 150 Table Games with live dealers
  • Automated table games with digital interfaces
  • Dedicated poker rooms with tournament options

SkyCare breaks are automatically enforced - 30 minutes after 5 hours of play and 6 hours after 10 hours. Weekly gaming limits are set at 36 hours maximum.

Premier Rewards and Card Management

SHOW by SkyCity card provides entry and perks through Premier Rewards tiers. Registration only takes a few minutes with your ID and contact info. You’ll be handed a physical card right at the counter and can start playing instantly.

Every wager, whether on machines or tables, adds up to points on your card. Accumulation is based on game type and spend, with different rates depending on what and where you play. You can check your progress, tier, and rewards at self-service stations dotted around the property.

As you accumulate more play, you’ll move through tiers automatically. Each tier offers a little more: better service, invites to special events, even better point redemptions. We recalculate tiers every month.

Lose your card? We’ll print a new one in minutes at membership services and restore your points and tier. Temporary cards get you back on the floor straight away if you’re still waiting for a new one.

Responsible Gaming Support

If gambling has become too much, self-exclusion is a step anyone can take. Speak with membership services and we’ll sort paperwork for a requested exclusion - once set up, you won’t be able to access gaming for at least the minimum period. Your card and entry rights are frozen for the whole exclusion time.

Worried about someone else? Family or close friends can also request a third-party exclusion if they see troubling signs. We review these and contact the member before making it active.

If you need advice or support about gambling, contact the Gambling Helpline at 0800 654 655 for confidential help. Our staff are trained to notice when things look off and can put you in touch with resources if needed.

Children under 14 years old cannot be left unattended anywhere on the premises, including restaurants, bars, or public areas. It’s about safety, and the rule is always in force.
